Week 16

Your all getting a two for 1 today!!  I had a draft of week 15 that I just never got around to posting, so I’m going to post it right along with this week.

Yesterday was 16weeks 0 Days.  Nothing major to announce (unfortunately!)  Jess and I went for a super secret ultrasound today, to try and get a gender determination.  We had it all planned out, and didn’t tell anyone.  It was supposed to be a Saturday of surprises for everyone!!  Unfortunately (as in the past), Choochie did not want to cooperate at all!!  The tech tried so hard, but the movement combined with the way the baby was lying (head down), as well as the fact that the Chooch refused to open “it’s” legs, resulted in a tech who didn’t want to make a determination.  At one point, the tech said she was leaning towards one way, but then said the opposite a short time later.  This went back and forth until she again said she was leaning towards one way, but couldn’t be sure.  So this leads to my big announcement of, It’s either a boy or girl!!!!!!  One thing I do know for sure, is that Choochie is awesome at high fives!!

Another certainty is that Choochie has five fingers on at least one of “it’s” hands!!   The heartbeat at today’s surprise failure was 161bpm.  The tech took a couple measurements, and said everything looks great!!  She took another picture and said it was portrait, but I can’t really tell what it is.  You be the judge!!

As for Jess, this past week has been a bit of a turning point in regards to her Hyperemesis Gravidarum.  Things, although slowly, seem to be getting better.  She is even going to try to get back to work on Monday!!  The nausea is still there, but it seems less frequent.  Hopefully things stay the way they are, and she could start feeling better!!

How far along? 16weeks 1 day!

How Big Is Choochie?  Choochie is now the size of a Avocado!  Eyesight (and eyelashes!) are developing rapidly!  Choochie now weighs in at a three to five ounces, and four to five inches in length. The bones that are now in place in the ears.  The tiny muscles in the body, especially the ones in the back, are gaining strength, which allow Choochie to straighten out a little more, and thanks to his developing facial muscles, Choochie is capable of making a few expressive frowns and squints, even at this early stage.   The eyes are finally working, making small side-to-side movements and perceiving light (although the eyelids are still sealed).

Maternity clothes? This past week was the beginning of Jess’ maternity shopping spree!!  Out of nowhere she popped, and there is definitely a baby bump!  She can still wear her old clothes, but not comfortably!

Stretch marks? Not yet!!! (SAME AS LAST WEEK)

Sleep?  Seems to be getting better week by week.  She still can’t get comfortable, but hopefully the maternity pillow will come into play this week, and make things better!!

Movement? Jess definitely feels movement if she puts her hands on her belly and gently presses.  She describes it as more of a rolling feeling.  From what I saw at today’s ultrasound, she has to be feeling something.  That little bugger is out of control in there!!  As for me, I keep trying, but haven’t been able to feel anything yet.  😥

Food cravings? Waffles (I am beginning to hate waffles), toasted wheat crackers with easy cheese, and  Chicken fingers

Gender?  BLAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Milestones?  Linea Nigra has arrived!!!!!

Week 15

Not too much to report for the last week.  Jess had another OB appointment for the Hyperemesis Gravidarum.  The Doc wanted her out for another two weeks of work, but came to an agreement with Jess that if she felt good enough, she would be allowed to cut a week off of that time.  The Doc listened to the heartbeat, and said it sounded good.  The heartbeat was 155bpm.

As for Jess, it seems as though we “might” have turned the corner on the sickness.  I am not going to count my chickens before they hatch, but a bunch of vomit free days in a row, is a good sign!!  The nausea is still there, but fluids and food are going down, and staying down.  It might only be waffles, but that is good enough for me!!!!

How far along? 15weeks 1 day!

How Big Is Choochie?  Choochie is now the size of a navel orange! The ears have migrated to the side of the head, and the eyes are moving to the front of the face.  Fingers and toes have begun to wiggle.  Breathing movements are also occurring, for preparation for life outside the womb!!

Maternity clothes? Nothing too “Maternity” yet.  Shirts are fine, but jeans seem to be the problem.  Jess has a couple of maternity jeans, but she seems to be right in the area where she can’t fit into either.  The tiny baby bump is beginning to be noticeable!!

Stretch marks? Not yet!!! (SAME AS LAST WEEK)

Sleep?  Seems to be getting better week by week.  She still can’t get comfortable, but hopefully the maternity pillow will come into play this week, and make things better!!

Movement? Jess can feel some fluttering in the belly, but it seems as if it’s inside that she is feeling, because when I try, there is no feeling at all.

Food cravings? Waffles, toasted wheat crackers with easy cheese (SAME AS LAST WEEK)

Gender?  Your guess is as good as mine!!

Week 14 (A Little Late)

This post is a little late this week, and I almost said screw it, I’ll just do a week 15.  I caved, and wanted to make sure I got at least one a week until Choochie is born.  It was a long holiday weekend, and I was being lazy!!

Last Friday, we had another ultrasound, as well as another checkup for for the Hyperemesis Gravidarum.  The ultrasound went well, although we were unable to get measurements.  The tech did a couple different measurements to determine the age (Head circumference, thigh bone length, belly etc..).  The heartbeat was good, at 161bpm, and the tech said everything looked great.  We also asked where the placenta had attached, because we were curious.  The tech said it was a posterior placement, which means that Jess will probably begin to feel movement soon!!  We got another picture, but this one was almost to scary to post!!  You can judge for yourself, but it looks eerily skeleton like!!

After the ultrasound, we were whisked into the OB’s exam room, where he did doppler for the heartbeat.  He too said everything looked great on the ultrasound photos, as well as sounded great on his dopppler.

Regarding Jess, he put her out of work for another week, and suggested that we try adding Reglan (pill), to the Zofran pump, to see if this would help with the nausea and throwing up.  It has been touch and go as far as food, and keeping it down.  At times, Jess can only do the frozen waffles.  On occasion, she will tell me, if you order pizza or cook (insert good food here), right now, I will be able to eat it.  In the last couple days, the tides have turned a little, and instead of diarrhea, we have bad constipation.  At least we know she won’t be getting dehydrated anytime soon.

Jess has another appointment this coming Thursday, and hopefully she will get the go ahead to return to work. I guess we’ll see, as the week goes on.

How Big Is Choochie? Choochie is now the size of a clenched fist.  Other developments this week include a roof inside the mouth,  as well as intestinal activity.  The intestines are now producing meconium (which is the waste that will make up the first bowel movement after birth). Lanugo (thin, downy hair) is growing all over the body for warmth.

Maternity clothes? Nothing too “Maternity” yet.  Shirts are fine, but jeans seem to be the problem.  Jess has a couple of maternity jeans, but she seems to be right in the area where she can’t fit into either. (SAME AS LAST WEEK)

Stretch marks? Not yet!!! (SAME AS LAST WEEK)

Sleep?  Still crappy at best!  At least the multiple pee trips have subsided, but she still just can’t seem to get comfortable

Movement? Can’t know for sure, but definitely possible because of posterior placenta implantation

Food cravings? Waffles, toasted wheat crackers with easy cheese

Gender? Asked again this week during the ultrasound, but Choochie was uncooperative as normal

Milestones: N/A

Week 13

Jess had her regular monthly visit this past Thursday.  Unfortunately we were unable to get an ultrasound or any measurements.  They did the doppler for the heartbeat, but didn’t even count that.  The OB just said it sounded great.  It’s weird not having another pic of the ultrasound to put up.  We have been getting one almost every week since the implantation.  Jess has a followup for the Hyperemesis Gravidarum next Friday with a different OB, whom she says is a “pushover”!  Hopefully I’ll be able to get a new picture for Week 14!!

Since I don’t have any cool pics to share, I’ll share a little home doppler heartbeat!!  This is from a week or two ago, and poor quality.  I recorded from my iPhone.  I will definitely have a better one soon!!

Here is the Music Player. You need to installl flash player to show this cool thing!

The Doc kept Jess out of work for another week.  Jess was hell bent on going back this week, but since last Sunday things have rapidly gone down hill.  She lost a little bit more weight, and isn’t able to keep much down again.  Hopefully this will get better soon.

How far along? 13 Weeks 2 days!

How Big Is Choochie?  As the first trimester comes to a close, Choochie is about the size of peach.  The head is now about half the size of the crown-to-rump length.  Tiny bones are beginning to form in the arms and legs, and the intestines are beginning to move from the umbilical cord to the abdomen.  The vocal cords, and teeth are also well under construction!!

Maternity clothes? Nothing too “Maternity” yet.  Shirts are fine, but jeans seem to be the problem.  Jess has a couple of maternity jeans, but she seems to be right in the area where she can’t fit into either. (SAME AS LAST WEEK)

Stretch marks? Not yet!!! (SAME AS LAST WEEK)

Sleep? Crappy at best!  Jess gets up many times during the night to pee, and just can’t seem to get comfortable (SAME AS LAST WEEK)

Movement? Possibility of one the other night, but I attribute it to gas!!  😉

Food cravings? Waffles, toasted wheat crackers with easy cheese, and graham crackers too!! (Mac N’ Cheese did not stay down tonight!!)

Gender? Someone commented on last weeks ultrasounds, that it looks as though it is a girl.  I’m not convinced, but I’ll stick with that for this week

 Milestones: N/A

Nuchal Translucency Thingy And A Milestone

This past Thursday was a doctor packed day!  Jess had a Nuchal Translucency Scan, followed by an OB visit.  I was off, so I got to be the driver/supporter!!  The Nuchal scan was pretty cool.  It was pretty much just a high resolution ultrasound with a very crabby ultrasound tech (People skills were not her forte’).  Choochie was completely out of control the entire exam, and it was hard for the tech to get the measurements.  Sometimes, during these tests, if the baby is cooperating, you can determine the sex of the baby.  Well let’s just say that when the Doc came in to go over the results, and do another ultrasound, the first thing she said was, “Wow, the baby is doing a hand stand!”  Needless to say, we were unable to get a very early sex determination.  As for the test itself, all the measurements taken were well below the danger zone values.  This doesn’t mean that there isn’t a problem, it just means that there is a greater chance of there not being one.  We won’t get our full 94% accurate answer for another 5 weeks.  Thursdays scan, and blood test, will be combined with another blood test in about 5 weeks, which will give us our 94% accurate answer.

We got another set of a bit more detailed ultrasound photos, to add to our ever expanding catalog.  We must have the most ultrasounds ever!!  CRL length was 4.78cm, and Heartbeat was 167bpm!!

Choochie

Headshot

Immediately following the nuchal scan, Jess had a followup OB appointment.  The doc was going to do another ultrasound, but since we just had one not two hours earlier, Jess convinced him just to use the doppler and find the heartbeat (166bpm).  The appointment was for a followup regarding the Hyperemesis Gravidarum.  The doc and Jess came to the conclusion, that things were definitely not getting worse, and kinda of getting better.  He took Jess out of work for 1 more week, and decided to try and start weening Jess off of the Zofran Pump.  Hopefully things will stay the same, and we can get back to normal!!

As of Friday, Choochie was 12 weeks!!  Now, some books, and websites say this is the entry to the Second Trimester, while others say 14 weeks.  This is all a little confusing, so when we were at the OB visit on Thursday, we decided to task the Doc.  He said “technically” the second trimester would start 8 days after week 12, but most people, and docs go with the 12 week mark.  I think we are going to stick to the 12 week mark, because any relief from the crappy symptoms of the first trimester are welcome with open arms.  So here’s to the the start of our second and hopefully a symptom free trimester!! (On a side note, the last two days have pretty much sucked for Jess)

I purchased an at home doppler for Jess for her soon to be Mothers Day!!  I originally though it was too soon to hear anything, but we have been able to find the heartbeat almost every time.  I am waiting until its really loud to do any recordings.  As soon as It gets loud enough, you can bet that it will be posted.

OK, enough about us, let’s get on to Choochie & Jess

How far along? 12 Weeks 2 days!

How Big Is Choochie?  Choochie weighs a full half-ounce and is about the size of a large plum. Most systems are in place, though there’s still plenty of maturing to do.  The fetal digestive system is beginning to practice contraction movements necessary for eating, and the bone marrow is busy making white blood cells.  The pituitary gland has started producing the hormones that will enable him (or her) to make babies of his (or her) own in a couple of decades or so.  (Unless they pick up the old infertility trait from me!! 😉  )

12 Week Old Fetus

Maternity clothes? Nothing too “Maternity” yet.  Shirts are fine, but jeans seem to be the problem.  Jess has a couple of maternity jeans, but she seems to be right in the area where she can’t fit into either.

Stretch marks? Not yet!!!

Sleep? Crappy at best!  Jess gets up many times during the night to pee, and just can’t seem to get comfortable

Movement? Choochie is out of control on the ultrasounds, but no feelings yet!!

Food cravings? Waffles, and pizza!!  (the only 2 things Jess can keep down!)

Gender? Still a little too early (plus the chooch doesn’t want to cooperate!)

Milestones: Second Trimester WOO HOO!!!

Emotions: All over the place
